MANILA, Philippines — Cainta Catholic College achieved 1st Runner-up in the Quiz Bee - High School level of the I.T. Cup held last Saturday, January 19, 2019 at De La Salle University Manila, hosted by TechnoKids (TK) and La Salle Computer Society (LSCS) with the theme “GenZ-tizens: A Walk Through a TechCommunity.” This year’s IT Cup was divided into two days: January 19 for the Quiz Bee and Multimedia categories and January 26 for the Robotics. Seventy (70) schools, more or less, are registered this 2019.
The program proper started at 8:00 a.m. in Teresa Yuchengco Auditorium with an opening prayer led by Fr. Norman Que. Afterwards, the mechanics of the Quiz Bee were discussed among the audience, which were composed of coaches, participants and volunteers both from TK and LSCS. When the discussion was finished, the quiz bee started. The first part of the quiz bee is the Grade School level. Cainta Catholic College was represented by Mary Precious Leonardo and Clemerie Ayen Jacinto. They scored 330 points in the Preliminary Round, but was unfortunately eliminated, and the program then proceeded to the Finals.
After the Grade School came the High School level, which was represented by Lourice Gwyneth Dela Cruz and Iris Francheska Bautista who entered the Top 10 with a tie-breaker among four (4) other schools. The Finals only consisted of 10 questions, one point each. The Champion, Siena College of San Jose, scored 7 points while there was a tie between Cainta Catholic College and St. Andrew School of Parañaque with 6 points. Both proceeded to answer tie-breaker questions until only one of them got the correct answer. Cainta Catholic College wins the tie-breaker, also winning the 2nd place, being the 1st-runner up. Also, aside from the Quiz Bee, Aika Perez competed for the Animation category who proceeded to the Top 10 this year.

Dwayne Fernandez, a member of CCC’s Robotics Team, said, “I am extremely nervous... our team will strive for victory and will do our best to reach our goal and make everyone proud.” The team is bound to compete next Saturday, January 26, hopeful to also bring home the bacon.
