Reflection: Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity (Eight Week, Ordinary Time)

We celebrate today the Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity, One God in three Persons, the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. The Holy Trinity is considered as the central mystery of our faith. But the truth is we can never really fully fathom and understand this mystery. We do not worship three gods, we worship the One True God but in three Persons as the Catechism would tell us “God is one but not solitary.” Trying to comprehend the mystery is like placing the entire ocean inside a pail. We can read in the book of the prophet Isaiah “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways says the Lord.”

Yes we may not fully understand God but it doesn’t mean that he is not real or he is not true as the atheists would say, they could not understand therefore they just denied his existence. Not fully understanding God does not also mean that he does not care for us as the agnostics would say they could not fathom God therefore they would simply say that probably God is so far and does not care for us.

The reality is God is very real and true and he cares for us, he has concern for us and he loves us so much. We have heard in our Gospel of today from St. Matthew , Jesus told his disciples “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you and behold I am always with you always until the end of time.” The great commission is for all of us baptized Christians, all of us are baptized in the name of the Trinity. It is our Mission to show the world that indeed God is real and he is very close to us.

We cannot proclaim God, we cannot proclaim the Good News if we ourselves do not recognize the wondrous deeds he has done in our lives. In our first reading from the book of Deuteronomy we hear how Moses reminded the people of Israel about the great deeds that the Lord has done for them. “Did a people ever hear the voice of God speaking from the midst of fire, or did any god venture to go and take a nation for himself with strong and outstretched arms.”

Sometimes in our own lives we only focus on the pains, failures, the sorrows, the things we thought we lack.

In our second reading St. Paul reminded us that we are children of God and not just children but heirs. Sufferings and problems do not mean that he has forsaken us we are re minded that “ we suffer with him so that we may also be glorified with him.

We may not fully fathom the mystery of the Trinity but do not be frustrated just let it be. The important thing is that we enter into a relationship with the Triune God, the father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. He created us, he saved us and is continually guiding us because of his great love the same love we must proclaim and give to others.
