“Never give up, never give in, and when the upper hand is ours, may we have the ability to handle the win with the dignity that we absorbed the loss,” says Doug Williams, an American football coach.
Hon. Mayor Johnielle Keith Passion Nieto gave us the honor of interviewing him at his office at the Municipal Hall of Cainta. His great and never-ending support for the players of Cainta showcase how a true leader should be.
“They become skilled, they become competent players. They hired trainers that we feel will be able to bring out the best in them,” said Mayor Nieto. He emphasized the support that the municipality gives to the players as he described their determination in winning the games. They focused on the sports that will provide them the most medals available.
Schools, especially those that are private, also contributed to the success Cainta gains from provincial meets through a variety of great players that represent their schools, and in return, represents the town itself. These local athletes are honed and guided through the never-ending effort of our municipality. “We harness their skills by providing them the right people to man them, to home them, to train them, to coach them,” Mayor Nieto states.
Another thing that accompanies the mayor’s passion in helping and supporting his players is the incentive that he gives to them, ranging up to Php 500,000. “If you provide incentive to people, it gives them more inspiration to do their best because there is something at stake,” he said. With his perseverance to motivate the players of Cainta, he is not afraid to release a big amount of money for them. “At the end of the day, they get to accomplish their objective of winning. It’s as basic as that. We provide them something which will entice them to do better,” he added.
When asked why he gives a lot of effort for these players, he answered that he aims to make them feel important and prioritized. “Kung number one kami bilang bayan, dapat number one din sila bilang atleta,” he said. He expressed his pride on these players and his desire to hone the best by using the resources that they have. He said, “We’re headed towards grabbing the first place in the next years, provided that we sustain the adequate resources that we extend to our students.”
“As long as they try to prove to me that they are doing their best, that they’re doing this for our town, then they can expect the kind of support that other towns can only dream of,” he said.
Thus, we can assure that the players of Cainta are in good hands, all thanks to our beloved Mayor Keith Nieto, who never failed to bring out the best in our athletes and in our town. Through his efforts, Cainta players will continue to aim to be at the top and be the number one.
